David Horton has a BFA from NAS majoring in Sculpture, and has worked in steel for the last 10 years. David is currently in the last year of a MFA, where his proposal is to explore the relationship of form to music. By using the refuse from the metal industry, Horton is trying to create visual equivalencies of music.
He was recently awarded the top prize at Sculpture by the Sea (2007) for his piece Yesternight, and has won several sculpture prizes including the Transfield sculpture prize for outstanding student, the Sydney Airport sculpture prize and the Waverley sculpture prize. He has been showing in Sydney since 1998 at the Defiance Gallery and teaches sculpture and drawing at NAS, Wollongong TAFE, at the Art Gallery of NSW, and Waverley Woollahra. David is thrilled to have received his prize for Sculpture by the Sea in his first year of exhibiting.
David is available for commissions and can be contacted through defiance gallery.
